Beauty |
In making this piece I was thinking about the concept of beauty. I have noticed that my idea of what is beautiful has changed as my life changes yet certain things have remained constant. I love this Native American prayer/ poem because it seems to describe the essence of beauty. It comes from the Navajo people who live in the Southwestern United States.
The Navajo Night Way Ceremony
In beauty may I walk
All day long may I walk
Through the returning seasons may I walk
Beautifully I will possess again
Beautifully birds
Beautifully joyful birds
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk
With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk
With beauty may I walk
With beauty before me may I walk
With beauty behind me may I walk
With beauty behind me may I walk
With beauty above me may I walk
With Beauty all around may I walk
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty,
lively, may I walk
In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty,
Living again, may I walk
It is finished in beauty
It is finished in beauty

ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece Elizabeth and the poem accompanies it well. I have also noticed that my concept of beauty has changed but the beauty of nature has always enchanted me and the older I get the more it effects me.
ReplyDeleteThank you Robyn! Yes I am having a similar experience. As if the enchantment of my childhood experiences outdoors are calling me back. As I grow older I want to spend more time with nature. Oh I think this could be a long conversation! i am editing myself here.. hehe!
